Product description

Variable speed controller for single-phase motors with a maximum current of 6 A. The requested fan speed can be set via Modbus RTU communication. This controller automatically detects the supply voltage in the range of 110-230 VAC / 50-60 Hz.

If the motor winding has a built-in thermal contact (TK), it can be connected to the fan speed controller to monitor the temperature of the motor windings. The TK monitoring function automatically deactivates the motor in case of overheating. This speed controller also offers a remote start-stop input. The unregulated output is active when the motor is enabled. This output can be used to control an external damper for example.

The motor can be accelerated via kick start or via soft start acceleration mode.

Additional specifications and description

How does this fan speed controller works?
This variable speed controller is controlled via Modbus RTU communication. All settings can be adjusted via the Modbus Holding Registers. The desired speed can be adjusted via Modbus HR13. An example: when value '400' is written in HR13, 40 % of the supply voltage will be sent to the motor.
The starting method and starting speed can be set in Modbus HR 18 and 19. The device is fully controlled via Modbus RTU communication. However, it is possible to detect an external start command via a digital input. This input offers the possibility to combine this device for example with an external thermostat, a sensor with a relay output, etc.

Silent motor control thanks to innovative technology
This variable speed controller is equipped with highly accurate microprocessors and zero-cross detection algorithms. These ensure extremely precise motor control. This results in very quiet motor operation, even at low speeds. Moreover, it has a positive effect on the motor's lifespan. This speed controller combines energy-efficient motor control with optimal service life.

What Is the Purpose and Function of the Unregulated Output?
The unregulated output is active when the motor is enabled. The unregulated output provides a voltage, equal to the supplied mains voltage. It can be used to control an external run-indicator, a damper, etc. E.g. when the fan is deactivated, the damper is closed. When the fan is active, the damper is open. The maximum load is 2 A.

How Does the Controller Protect Against Motor Overheating?
The greatest risk of (permanent) damage to an electric motor is overheating of the motor windings. To detect overheating in time, some AC motors are equipped with thermal contacts (TK). They measure the temperature inside the motor windings. This fan speed controller can monitor thermal motor contacts. In case of motor overheating, the TK monitoring function will disable the motor to prevent motor damage. If your motor is not equipped with TK contacts, bridge both TK terminals to simulate normal motor temperature.

What Are the Enclosure's Material and Protection Features?
The enclosure is made of high-quality r-ABS VO (UL94) plastic. This material is flame extinguishing in case of fire, very tough and offers good protection against impacts. The enclosure can be surface mounted and offers an IP54 protection against ingress of dirt, dust and moisture.

What mains voltage can I connect this fan speed controller to?
Depending on the region, the available mains voltage may also vary. This variable speed controller can be connected to a wide range of supply voltages. The supply voltage must be in the range of 110–230 VAC and the fluctuation should remain within the range of ±10%. This makes it universally applicable and suitable for use in virtually any region worldwide.
Caution! This device regulates the motor speed by reducing the supplied mains voltage. If the mains voltage is 230 volts, this device can only control 230 Volt motors. The unregulated output is equal to the supplied mains voltage.
