What are VOCs and Where Should the Sensor Be Installed?
VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) are gases released by various products and materials, including paints, cleaning products, solvents and furniture. Elevated VOC levels can negatively affect indoor air quality. The DSVCG2-4 uses sensor to detect changes in VOC levels and provides a VOC Index.  The DSVCG2-4 is designed for installation in ventilation air ducts, with the sensing tube positioned directly in the airflow. For reliable measurements and long-term operation, the device should be protected from direct sunlight, water and locations with continuously high VOC concentrations.

The VOC Index provides a simple indication of indoor air quality on a scale from 1 to 500, with 100 representing the average VOC level. Values below 100 indicate cleaner-than-average air, while higher values indicate increasing VOC levels and poorer air quality. The index ranges from Excellent to Very Bad and can help demand-controlled ventilation systems automatically adjust airflow to maintain a healthier and more comfortable indoor environment.
 
How Does the Sensor’s Analogue Output Transmit Values?
The analogue output can be controlled according to the VOC Index or set to a manually selected value. The minimum and maximum VOC levels can be configured to correspond to 0% and 100% of the analogue output range. Several analogue output types are supported, allowing the device to be easily integrated with ventilation controllers, HVAC equipment and building management systems.
 
How Are the Sensor’s Settings and Configuration Adjusted?
The DSVCG2-4 can be configured via Modbus RTU over an RS-485 communication interface. This allows users to adjust VOC thresholds, alarm settings, relay operation and analogue output ranges according to the requirements of the installation. In addition, the device provides status and diagnostic information, helping users monitor its operation and identify potential faults. 
 
What Are the Sensor’s Power Supply and Wiring Requirements?
The DSVCG2-4 operates on 24 VAC or 24 VDC and has three main connections: VIN for the power supply, A and /B for RS-485 communication, and GND for ground. A CAT5 or EIB cable is recommended for RS-485 communication, with a maximum cable length of up to 1000 metres.
 
What Are the Sensor’s Quality, Durability and Protection Features?
The DSVCG2-4 sensing elements are calibrated by the original manufacturer to provide accurate measurements. The SHT41 also has a built-in heater that helps reduce measurement errors caused by condensation. The duct is designed for indoor use and provides IP54/IP20 protection. Built-in diagnostics help monitor the sensor and detect possible issues. The device also meets EMC, Low Voltage, RoHS and WEEE requirements, making it a reliable solution for ventilation and indoor air quality applications.
