Product description

The output filter is installed between the inverter and the motor to limit voltage peaks and smooth the waveform in order to protect the motor and cable insulation. The maximum motor current is 12 A.

Reduces Voltage spikes and minimises peak voltages caused by PWM switching and long motor cables, protecting motor insulation.

Longer motor cables can be used in combination with output filters (for both shielded and unshielded motor cables)

Improves Reliability: Reduces risk of insulation breakdown and increases motor lifespan in inverter-driven systems.

Manufacturers code: OPT-2-M3012-66

Additional specifications and description

When should output filters be used with an inverter?
Output filters should be used whenever long motor cables are installed between the inverter and the motor. They reduce the rise time and peak voltage, helping to protect the motor from excessive electrical stress. The additional inductance of the filter balances the effects of cable capacitance and reduces voltage spikes of the output waveform, preventing potential motor damage. Output filters are also recommended whenever a non-inverter rated motor is used, providing additional protection and ensuring safe, reliable operation.

Can I connect more than one motor to the output of my frequency inverter?
It is possible to connect more than one motor to the output of a frequency inverter, provided certain conditions are met. Each motor must be protected by its own individualFilters for FI thermal overload to ensure safe operation.
The total length of the motor cables must not exceed the limits specified in the frequency inverter’s user guide. An output filter is recommended in all cases, as it allows the maximum permissible motor cable length to be extended by 50%.
When selecting a frequency inverter, it is important to consider the total current required. This is done by adding together the rated currents of all connected motors and choosing a unit with sufficient rated output current capacity to handle the combined load.
Finally, all motors must remain permanently connected to the drive. They cannot be individually started or stopped while the frequency inverter is enabled.

Can I use longer motor cables with my frequency inverter?
Yes, motor cable lengths can be extended beyond the standard limits with the use of an output filter. Normally, the maximum cable length is defined in the product user guide — for shielded cables this is the stated value, and for unshielded cables it is 150% of that value. By fitting an output filter, these limits can be increased to 200% for shielded cables and 300% for unshielded cables.

For example, if the user guide specifies a maximum cable length of 25 m:

Shielded cable: 25 m without filter → 50 m with filter
Unshielded cable: 37.5 m (150%) without filter → 75 m with filter

Using an output filter in this way helps maintain safe operation and protects the motor and cable from excessive voltage stress.

What makes the enclosure reliable?
The wall-mounting enclosure is designed to protect the electronics in harsh environments as well as in outdoor applications. It offers an IP66 protection against the ingress of water, dirt and contaminants. This makes it possible to install this frequency inverter directly on the installation, even in wash-down applications. It eliminates the need of an electric cabinet. It is advisable to protect the device against snow and direct sunlight.
