Soil Moisture Sensor | IP67 | PoM
Product description
SWCSM-075 is a sensor for measuring soil moisture and temperature.
The sensor operates on a 24 VDC power supply with Power over Modbus (PoM). All measured values are accessible via Modbus RTU communication.
The enclosure provides an IP67 protection.

Additional specifications and description
1) Which parameters are measured and why is it important?
This sensor measures both soil moisture and temperature, enabling precise irrigation management by accurate monitoring of soil water content.
For optimal plant growth, maintaining balanced soil moisture is essential. Too little water leads to stunted growth and wilting due to nutrient deficiencies, while prolonged drought reduces plant resilience over time. Excess water can suffocate roots and increase disease risk. Effective irrigation also helps minimise nutrient leaching and reduces the loss of agrichemicals, improving overall soil and crop health.
This soil moisture sensor combines capacitance and frequency domain reflectometry (FDR) technology to determine the volumetric water content of the soil.
2) What are the configuration and customisation options?
SWCSM-075 is a soil humidity sensor with an integrated digital temperature sensor. The cable of the sensor is 7.5 meters long. To accurately monitor field moisture, the sensor should be installed within the effective root zone at strategically selected locations. Using multiple sensors provides better insight into rainfall infiltration patterns and supports evaluation of irrigation efficiency.

To connect this sensor to a Sentera Modbus network, an adaptor box of type ADPT-SWCSM is needed.
3) How is the sensor installed, and what are the power and connectivity requirements?
The sensing element should be in good contact with the soil while the housing and cable remain above the surface. In some cases, the sensor can be inserted directly into the ground near the surface; if the soil is too hard, a small slit can be made using a knife or shovel to facilitate insertion. Do not fully bury the sensor in the soil. Make sure there is sufficient contact between the soil and the sensor and minimise any air gaps around the sensing element. Do not place the sensor near metal objects as this may interfere with the electromagnetic field of the sensor and influence the readings.
The sensor requires a supply voltage of 24 VDC. All measured values are accessible via Modbus RTU communication.
4) What are the manufacturing quality and protection ratings?
All sensors are designed and manufactured in Europe. Each device is calibrated and tested in our factory. Only high-quality components are used, ensuring long-term stability and accuracy. The sensor offers an IP67 protection against ingress of dust and water.
