Product description

This is an Input-Output module for Modbus RTU networks. It has 4 digital inputs and 2 relay outputs. The relay outputs can be triggered via a Modbus RTU register and the status of the digital inputs is interpreted into Modbus RTU registers.

The supply voltage is 24 VDC, PoM, which means that both Modbus RTU communication and the supply voltage can be connected via the RJ45 socket.

The enclosure is suitable for DIN rail mounting and provides an IP30 protection rating, safeguarding against the infiltration of dust and moisture.

How does it function?
Sentera devices communicate with one another using the Modbus RTU communication protocol. Modbus RTU is a serial communication protocol that utilizes RS485 technology for data transmission. This allows for reliable and efficient communication between Sentera devices.
The DIO-M-R2 module serves as an interface for connecting non-Sentera products, such as a damper actuator or a door switch, to the Sentera system. 
It provides two relay outputs and four digital inputs for this purpose. Each relay has a normally open contact configuration. This means that when activated, the relay closes its contact, allowing current to flow through the connected circuit. The maximum switching current for each relay is 2 A for resistive loads at 230 VAC.
The module features four digital inputs. These inputs can receive signals from external devices or sensors. The inputs can be activated by various means, including an external device with a digital output, a dry contact output, or a tacho signal. A tacho signal is particularly useful for measuring motor speed, and the module can detect tacho signals.

Operating modes
In normal mode, the relay outputs can be controlled by writing a value of '1' to the corresponding Modbus RTU holding register. This mode requires a Modbus RTU master device to send commands to the module and read the input values.
Tied mode, on the other hand, can be activated via Modbus RTU. In tied mode, the relay outputs are linked to the inputs. When an input is activated, the corresponding relay output will also be activated. There are various ways to activate the digital inputs, including using an external device with a digital output, a dry contact output, or a tacho signal. A tacho signal can be used to measure motor speed, with the module capable of detecting tacho signals in the range of 0 to 60.000 rpm or 0 to 1.000 Hz.

Power supply and communication

The module receives both the 24 VDC supply voltage and Modbus RTU communication via the RJ45 socket. To simplify wiring, Sentera recommends using their 24 VDC power supplies with RJ45 connectors, which can be easily connected to the module. Modbus RTU communication allows for seamless integration with other Sentera devices and systems.

Connections
There are multiple ways to connect the digital inputs of DIO-M-R2. The I/O module also features motor tacho signal detection and reading. The relay outputs of DIO-M-R2 should be connected to the circuit wires to the common and normally open (or closed) contacts.

The DIO-M-R2 module is designed for DIN rail mounting, providing a convenient and secure installation method. DIN rails provide a standardized and secure mounting platform for electronics.
