Potentiometers & switches for fan speed control

Potentiometers for fan speed control

Most HVAC fans follow a quadratic torque curve. Meaning that a slight reduction in fan speed (or average airflow rate) has a major impact on the fan’s electrical energy consumption.

A potentiometer can be used to manually generate a ‘requested fan speed’ for both an EC fan and an AC fan speed controllers. Meaning that the potentiometer’s analogue output signal can be used to directly control the rotational speed of an EC fan or to provide an input signal for an AC fan speed controller.

All our potentiometers are suited for both inset and surface mounting.

Switches for AC fan speed control

These 3-step control switches are designed to manually adjust the speed of single phase 3-speed fans. They are available with or without OFF position. The working principle of these 3-step control switches is to connect the 230 VAC mains to either the start winding of the motor or to one of the connection points on the main winding of the motor. So the 230 VAC is connected to only one of the three contacts. This allows you to adjust the fan speed from minimum to maximum in 3 steps.
