Switch mode power supplies, 24 VDC
Switching 24 VDC power supplies or regulated linear DC supplies are the most commonly used technologies to produce 24 VDC power for HVAC controllers, transmitters and other devices. Thanks to their high efficiency the heat production remains limited, what makes it possible to keep them very compact. A switch mode power supply generates a stabilised 24 VDC supply voltage and features protection against overload. Any fluctuations in the mains voltage are not noticeable in the generated 24 VDC voltage. Thanks to the overload protection, they simply shut down in case of a short circuit. When the short is cleared, the 24 VDC power supply is restored automatically. Therefore, Sentera advises to use HVAC controllers and transmitters that require 24 VDC power supply. If you want to save installation time, we recommend the Sentera -M series or PoM devices. These devices are interconnected via a single network cable with RJ45 connectors – distributing both 24 VDC power supply and Modbus RTU communication.

Safety transformers can be applied as linear power supplies to transform the 230 VAC mains into a lower voltage – typically 12 VAC or 24 VAC. To use a safety transformer as 12 VAC or 24 VAC power supply is an option if the load is constant and can tolerate some fluctuations in dc voltage caused by variations in the incoming AC supply. Sentera single phase safety isolating transformers generate a 12 VAC or 24 VAC supply voltage and feature reinforced isolation between the input and output windings.
