Product description

Outdoor air quality sensor for HVAC applications. It measures temperature, relative humidity, TVOC and ambient light.

It can be used in harsh environments or outdoor. The supply voltage is 24 VDC PoM - this means that Modbus RTU communication and 24 VDC power supply can be connected via one RJ45 connector.

The measured values are transmitted via Modbus RTU communication. The TVOC sensor element is replaceable.

In many applications, the ambient light sensor can be used to control the ventilation system in function of the occupancy of the room.

Why use a TVOC sensor
Traditional measurements of CO2 levels have limitations when it comes to assessing overall air quality, particularly regarding volatile organic compounds (VOCs). VOCs encompass a wide range of chemicals that can adversely affect human health and comfort. They originate from various sources such as bio-effluents (emanating from human respiration, perspiration, and metabolism) as well as vapours released from building materials and furnishings. VOCs evaporate from substances such as cleaning products, adhesives, paints, new carpets, copiers and printers. VOCs are a good benchmark for assessing indoor air quality. 
Unlike CO2, which is just one of many VOCs, there are thousands of unique VOCs that can be present in indoor environments. Therefore, while CO2 monitoring provides valuable information about ventilation and occupancy, it does not give a comprehensive picture of air quality. Integrating VOC monitoring alongside CO2 measurements can offer a more holistic understanding and management of air quality, ensuring human well-being and comfort.
Volatile organic compounds are known to cause eye, nose and throat irritations, headache, difficulty concentrating and fatigue. VOCs are a good benchmark for assessing indoor air quality. All measured values are available via Modbus RTU.
Besides TVOCs (total volatile organic compounds), this HVAC transmitter measures temperature, relative humidity and ambient light level. All measured values are available via Modbus RTU.  Fluctuations in temperature can impact occupants' comfort and productivity. By continuously monitoring temperature levels, the HVAC system can adjust heating or cooling settings as needed to maintain optimal comfort conditions. Proper humidity control is essential for maintaining indoor comfort, preventing mould growth and preserving indoor air quality. The ambient light levels can be used as the basis for day and night modes.

Simply connect this sensor with just one RJ45 connector! Modbus RTU communication and 24 VDC power supply are connected through a single UTP cable, a configuration we refer to as Power over Modbus or PoM. All measured values can be accessed via Modbus RTU communication. For streamlined wiring, we suggest utilizing a Sentera 24 VDC power supply equipped with an RJ45 connector. These power supplies ensure protection against short circuits, overloads and overvoltage, enhancing the safety and reliability of your installation with a 24 VDC supply voltage.
 
Easy to use!
This sensor does not require any configuration. Once installed, it is ready to use. The default settings will do for most applications. If necessary, the settings can be adjusted via Modbus RTU. For example, the temperature or relative humidity range can be adjusted via Modbus RTU. Also the light intensity of the LEDs for status indication is adjustable. The Modbus register map provides a complete overview of all adjustable settings. No configuration is needed for this sensor. Once installed, it's immediately operational, ready to use with the factory settings suitable for most applications. If needed, it can be customised via Modbus RTU. For instance, TVOC, temperature or relative humidity ranges can be tailored to specific requirements. The Modbus register map offers a comprehensive guide to all customisable settings, ensuring flexibility and ease of adjustment as needed.

While designed for durability, it's advisable to shield the sensor from direct sunlight to ensure optimal performance over time. For the purpose Sentera developed a protective cover for its sensors.
