Temperature Sensor | Fluid pipe | PoM
Product description
DTP-M is a sensor for measuring temperature fluid pipes.
The sensor has no analogue outputs. Modbus RTU communication and a 24 VDC power supply are connected by Power over Modbus (PoM) via one RJ45 connector. The measured values are accessible via Modbus RTU communication.
The compact enclosure features a copper plate and a thermal pad and provides an IP65 protection.

Additional specifications and description
Which parameters are measured and why is it important?
This digital sensor measures the temperature of the fluid pipe, which is a good indicator of the water temperature inside.
This sensor measures water temperature in supply and return pipes, helping to verify whether boilers, heat pumps, and fan heaters are operating correctly. It can also identify suboptimal system settings. For example, if the temperature drops too quickly, the boiler setpoint may need to be increased. Similarly, improper water distribution to a fan heater can affect performance. It can also be used in applications such as public swimming pools, where it provides insight into how quickly water reaches a comfortable temperature and how much heating is required. This information supports more efficient system configuration, optimise temperature settings and reduce energy consumption.
What are the configuration and customisation options?
This digital sensor and has no analogue outputs. The measured temperature is transmitted via Modbus RTU communication. A major advantage is the ability to support cable lengths of up to 1.000 meters, which is much longer than passive resistance-based sensors or digital sensors with an analogue output, where longer cable lengths have a higher resistance that distorts the measured values.
Via a Sentera internet gateway, this sensor can be connected to SenteraWeb, our online HVAC cloud platform.
The sensor operates within a temperature range of 0—85 °C.

How is the sensor installed, and what are the power and connectivity requirements?
This sensor can be connected with just one RJ45 connector. Power over Modbus (PoM) connects Modbus RTU communication and a 24 VDC power supply via one single UTP-cable. All measured values are available via Modbus RTU communication. To make wiring easier, we recommend using a Sentera 24 VDC power supply with an RJ45 connector. A 24 VDC supply voltage increases the safety and reliability of your installation, by offering protection against short circuit, overload and overvoltage.
This sensor features a copper plate for enhanced thermal conductivity and a heat-resistant cable tie for easy mounting, regardless of the pipe diameter. Additionally, a blue thermal pad — which is a thin rectangle made out of thermally conductive material — should be installed between the copper plate of the sensor and the pipe. The thermal pad fills air gaps that develop when the surface of the pipe is not perfectly flat. As a result, the temperature is read more accurately and external influences are minimized. Due to its compact design, the sensor can be mounted in places where space is limited.
What are the manufacturing quality and protection ratings?
All sensors are designed and manufactured in Europe. Each device is calibrated and tested in our factory. Only high-quality components are used, ensuring long-term stability and accuracy.
The enclosure provides an IP65 protection against ingress of dust and moisture. The sensor is ideal for precise and reliable temperature monitoring in HVAC systems.
