Temperature sensor for fluid pipes - PoM 24 VDC
Product description
The DTP-M series is a digital sensor that directly measures the temperature of water pipes.
It mounts directly onto the pipe without being affected by corrosion or flow rate, accurately reflecting the water temperature.
It includes a copper plate and thermal pad for fast response and accuracy. The operating range is 0—85 °C.
It communicates via Modbus RTU and is powered by 24 VDC through an RJ45 connector. A heat-resistant wiring harness is included.
It has an IP65 protection standard.
The ambient temperature range is -30—85 °C, and relative humidity is 5—95% rH (non-condensing).
DTP-M sensors are ideal for reliable and precise temperature monitoring in HVAC systems.

How Does the DTP-M Sensor Measure Pipe Temperature, and What Is the Importance of the Thermal Pad?
This digital sensor measures the temperature of the water pipe. This is a good indicator of the water temperature inside. The sensor comes with a blue thermal pad. A thermal pad is a thin rectangle made out of thermally conductive material. Install the thermal pad between the copper plate of the DTP-M sensor and the pipe. A thermal pad fills air gaps that develop when the surface of the pipe is not perfectly flat. As a result, the temperature is read more accurately and external influences are minimized.
What Are the Sensor's Size, Protection Rating, and Ease of Mounting?

Why Does the DTP-M Sensor Outperform Classic PT100 and Analog Sensors?
Classic passive PT100 sensors give the measured temperature as a resistance-based value, where 0 °C equals 100 Ohm. However, the cable through which the output signal travels also has a certain resistance value as well. This distorts the measured value and this distortion grows stronger with longer cable lengths. Digital temperature sensors with an analogue 0-10 Volt output signal have a similar disadvantage. Longer cable lengths have a higher resistance that influences the 0-10 Volt signal. This sensor does not have these disadvantages. The DTP-M works fully digitally and does not have a 0-10 Volt output. The measured temperature is transmitted via Modbus RTU communication. Modbus RTU communication cables can have a length of up to 1.000 meters. That is much longer than the maximum length of analogue signals.
How Is the Sensor Connected, and What Is PoM?
One RJ45 connector is all it takes to connect this sensor! Modbus RTU communication and 24 Volt power supply are connected via one cable - we call it Power over Modbus or PoM. The measured temperature is available via Modbus RTU communication. To facilitate wiring, we recommend to use the Sentera 24 VDC power supplies with RJ45 connector. These power supplies offer protection against short circuit, overload and overvoltage. A 24 VDC supply voltage increases the safety and reliability of your installation.
What Is SenteraWeb, and What Advantages Does Sensor Connectivity Offer?
Via a Sentera internet gateway, this sensor can be connected to SenteraWeb. This is Sentera’s state-of-the-art HVAC cloud platform. SenteraWeb has many possibilities for your application. Its data logging will flawlessly inform you about the evolution of the water temperature. You can go back in time view a graph of water temperatures and see the temperature at any given time. You can receive notifications if the water temperature drops too low, or reversely, rises past a certain temperature. View the full functionalities of SenteraWeb at www.senteraweb.eu.
What Are the Applications for This Sensor, and What Are Its Benefits?
This sensor is typically used to measure water temperature in the supply and return pipes. It can be used to verify if boilers, heat pumps and fan heaters work as intended. It can also indicate that the settings of a heater need revising: if the temperature of the water in the pipe drops too soon, the boiler temperature may need to be set to a higher temperature. The distribution of water to a fan heater may also not have been set well. The device can be used for measuring the temperature of boilers that should heat up to 85°C. Another application is (public) swimming pools. With this product, you can know how long it takes for the water temperature to reach comfortable levels and how much heating it requires. This may help you decide at what temperature to set your boiler and conserve energy.
