Product description

This is a Modbus RTU to analogue convertor with an analogue output. It converts the value of a Modbus Holding Register into an analogue output signal.

The default output type is 0-10 VDC. If necessary, a different output type can be selected: 0-10 VDC / 0-20 mA / 0-100 % PWM.

The supply voltage is 24 VDC. Modbus RTU communication and the power supply can be connected via the RJ45 socket or via the terminal block.

This module needs a Master unit that is able to write a value in its Modbus Holding Registers.

The surface-mounted enclosure offers an IP65 protection against ingress of dirt and water.

Additional specifications and description

How does it work?
Modbus is a widely recognized and commonly used standard in the field of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning and building automation. It is a versatile communication protocol that allows HVAC systems to efficiently exchange data between various components, such as sensors, controllers, actuators, and other devices, facilitating the monitoring and control of HVAC systems.
Modbus offers a standardized and reliable means of communication, making it a popular choice for integration and interoperability within HVAC systems and across building automation systems in general.
However, some devices without Modbus RTU communication on-board need to be connected to a Modbus network. In such cases, the MDACM1 serves the purpose of converting the Modbus RTU signal (RS485) into an analogue or modulating output signal, with options for 0-10 VDC, 0-20 mA or PWM
A Master unit is required, like Sentera’s universal controllers or any other Building Management System (BMS) or Master module capable of writing values to Modbus Holding registers is necessary to control the converter.

Two supply options
modbus to analogue converterThe converter features Power over Modbus (PoM) - a concept where electrical power is delivered through the same communication cables that are used for data transmission in a Modbus network. This approach eliminates the need for a separate power supply or wiring for the connected devices, making installations more streamlined and cost-effective.
With PoM, the electrical power is typically supplied through the same twisted-pair cables that are used for Modbus RTU communication using a standard Ethernet cable. It simplifies the setup of devices on a Modbus network, especially in situations where providing separate power sources for each device would be impractical or expensive.
Also, if you prefer,  you can crimp your own UTP cable using an RJ45 connector for PoM. This option is more suitable and easier to realize, since inserting the cable through the cable gland of the device before crimping it and only then plugging the crimped cable into socket is what we advise on for more efficient installation.
Having connected the cable through the RJ45 socket, you have both 24 VDC and Modbus communication using a single cable
However, the unit features one more supply option – through the spring clamp terminal blocks. Designed to securely and conveniently connect wires or conductors in electrical or electronic applications, these terminal blocks have a spring mechanism that allows for quick and reliable wire termination without the need for screws or other traditional fasteners.
To connect a wire using the spring clamp terminals, you simply insert the wire into the designated slot by pressing the spring mechanism using a flathead screwdriver and the mechanism holds the wire firmly in place.
Please, bear in mind that MDACM1 needs to be supplied via the RJ45 connector or via the connection terminals. Do not supply the device via the RJ45 connector and the connection terminals simultaneously!
For supplying MDACM1, you can use our 24 VDC power supply modules.

LED indication
The device features a green LED indicator which is solid on to indicate that the unit is supplied and flashes when there is active Modbus communication

High quality enclosure suited for tough environments
The enclosure is made of high-quality r-ABS VO (UL94) plastic. This material is heat resistant, very tough and offers good protection against impacts. The MDACM1 enclosure offers an IP65 protection against ingress of dirt and water and is wall-mounted. Thanks to its design and durability, the unit can be used even in harsh environments or outdoors
