How Does This Controller Manually Regulate Fan Speed?
This is a series of room fan speed controller regulating motor speed from maximum to minimum speed. When the built-in knob (potentiometer) is in the OFF position, the motor is inactive. Turning the knob clockwise starts the motor at maximum speed. When the knob is turned further clockwise, the motor slows down to the minimum speed.
How Is Minimum Fan Speed Optimized for Quiet Operation?
If the motor operates at very low revs its humming and buzzing will disturb the building occupants. In residential environments it is important that the motor does not produce too much noise. That is why the minimum motor speed is adjustable via an internal trimmer within the range 20 – 70 % of the supply voltage. Usually, the minimum motor voltage is adjusted in order to avoid motor stalling at low speed and optimize fan speed for your ventilation system.
Can the "OFF" Position Be Deactivated for Continuous Operation?
If necessary, the OFF position can be deactivated. In this case, the motor will run when the power supply is present. As standard, the supply voltage to the device is connected via terminals ↑ and N. To disable the OFF position, connect the supply voltage via the terminals intended for the unregulated output, namely ↓ and N.
What Motor Types Are Compatible and How Does the Controller Function?
This variable speed controller regulates the speed of AC fans by reducing the motor voltage. The voltage is reduced via phase angle control (TRIAC technology). This speed controller is therefore suitable for voltage controllable motors only. If you are not sure whether your motor is voltage controllable, it is best to contact the motor manufacturer.
What Are the Design, Durability, and Mounting Features of the Enclosure?
This fan speed controller can be wall-mounted or built-in. The mounting holes fit perfectly on the standard European wall boxes. The enclosure is made of high-quality ASA plastic in nice cream colour (RAL9010). The material is UV resistant and it protects against impacts. The protection class is IP44 when built-in and IP54 when wall-mounted. It protects the electronics against ingress of dust, dirt and water in indoor applications. The enclosure is easy to clean with a damp cloth.

What Is the Function and Application of the Unregulated Output?
If the supply voltage to the controller is connected as standard, the unregulated output is active when the motor is enabled. The unregulated output can be used to control external devices like an LED indicator, a damper, an external relay, etc. For instance, when the fan stops, the damper is closed. When the fan is active, the damper is open. Because this output is either ON (230 Volt) or OFF (0 Volt), it is called ‘unregulated output'. The maximum current of this output is 2 A.
What Fuse Features Does the Controller Offer for Easy Maintenance?
The device is delivered with two fuses – an operating and a spare one. In case the working fuse has blown up, remove the knob on the enclosure by turning it to the right until it pops out. Open the cover and unscrew the nut. Remove the fuse holder with the help of a screwdriver. There we go – no need to search for a spare fuse of the same type, size and rating if you have experienced a short circuit or overload. The spare overcurrent protection is provided!
