Product description

Presenting the USV Potentiometer—a meticulously crafted EC fan control device with a distinct US design. Engineered for precision, this potentiometer effectively governs EC fans, AC fan speed controllers, or damper actuators across a wide supply voltage range of 85-264 VAC.

Control is at your fingertips with the rotary knob, allowing infinite adjustment of the output signal. In the off-position, the output signal is 0%, ensuring optimal energy efficiency. Tailor the output type with ease using the jumper — choose from 0-10 VDC, 0-20 mA or 0-100% PWM to meet your specific requirements.

Customize the output signal with two internal trimmers, enabling adjustment of the output range between Vmin (0-40%) and Vmax (60-100%). This adaptability ensures precise control, aligning the potentiometer with your unique needs. The splash-proof enclosure adds a layer of resilience, facilitating seamless surface mounting.

Additional specifications and description

What is it intended for?
The USV-8-010-PA potentiometer serves for regulating and fine-tuning the operation of HVAC devices. Specifically, the potentiometer functions as an output control signal, its amplitude varying in accordance with the rotary knob position. This signal manipulation enables direct management of electronically commutated (EC) fans or damper actuators, or alternatively, facilitates remote control over alternating current (AC) fan speed controllers such as those from Sentera’s EVS or MVS series, as well as frequency inverters like the FI-E series.

Universal device
The universal power supply voltage within the range of 85 to 264 VAC while delivering 0 - 10 VDC,  0 - 20 mA  or PMW output signal make the USV-8-010-PA potentiometer suitable for numerous applications. You simply have to connect it to the mains without the need for using an external power supply module and then select the necessary output type depending on the specifications of the controlled device. potentiometer in an american kitchen

Output types
Since the USV-8-010-PA features three output modes – voltage (0 - 10 VDC), current (0 - 20 mA)  and Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), the default being 0 - 10 VDC, these can be selected using the jumper
Devices that use the 0 - 10 VDC signal are the most common in HVAC and are designed to interpret this voltage range and adjust their operation accordingly. This method provides a standardized and precise way to communicate control signals between different components within an HVAC system. It is often preferred for its simplicity, reliability, and ease of integration into various control systems.
A 0-20 mA signal range is employed for the control of devices such as sensors, actuators, or other components in industrial automation and control systems.
Pulse Width Modulation is a method of varying the average power delivered to a device by controlling the duration of pulses in a series of on-off cycles. In the context of HVAC electronics, PWM is often employed to regulate the speed of fans or motors. By adjusting the width of the pulses, the effective power delivered to the device can be controlled, allowing for precise modulation of fan speeds or other components.

Minimum and maximum speed trimmers
Minimum and maximum speed trimmers quite common in HVAC devices. These trimmers allow for the adjustment of the minimum and maximum operational speeds of devices like fans or motors.
The minimum speed trimmer allows for the adjustment of the lower limit of the control signal. This is beneficial when dealing with devices like EC (electronically commutated) fans or damper actuators that may not function optimally at extremely low speeds. Adjusting the minimum speed ensures that the control signal does not drop below a level that might be problematic for certain components.
The maximum speed trimmer, on the other hand, enables the adjustment of the upper limit of the control signal. In situations where a fan is overdimensioned or where it is necessary to limit the maximum speed for efficiency or safety reasons, the maximum speed trimmer comes into play.

Enclosure
The enclosure is designed and manufactured in-house. We use high-quality ABS plastic. This material is flame extinguishing, very tough and offers good protection against impacts. It offers protection against ingress dust and water. This fan speed controller can be installed on a wall or panel indoors.
