Product description

Motor Compatibility & Regulation: Regulates single-phase, voltage-controllable motors (110–240 VAC / 50–60 Hz) up to 6.0A max current by adjusting supplied voltage.

Key Features: Offers automatic power supply detection, thermal contacts (TK) for motor protection, and NO/NC inputs for remote start/stop.

Adjustable Settings: Internal trimmers adjust minimum and maximum speeds; output voltage is regulated by a potentiometer within the range of minimum output to supply voltage.

Additional Output: Includes an unregulated output for external devices like valves, lamps, or dampers.

Start Modes: Features kick-start and soft start modes, selectable via a jumper.

Indicators & Alarms: Has an illuminated on/off switch, LED diagnostics, and an alarm output for timely alerts.

Application: Ideal for HVAC systems, providing precise control, safety, and flexibility.

Additional specifications and description

How Does This Controller Regulate AC Motor Speed?
This fan speed controller regulates the speed of single phase AC motors. It does this by reducing the motor voltage via phase angle control (TRIAC technology). This means that this speed controller only works with voltage controllable motors. If you are not sure if your motor is voltage controllable, it is best to contact the motor manufacturer. This speed controller works completely silently. The fan speed can be set via the rotary knob on the front of the enclosure. Depending on the motor type, a humming motor noise may occur at low speed.

How Are Minimum and Maximum Fan Speeds Optimized?
Electronic fan speed controllers ITRS9
The minimum and maximum range of motor speed can be adjusted with the two internal trimmers. This makes it possible to optimize the speed range that can be selected via the knob on the front panel. By optimizing the speed range, any overcapacity of the fan can be compensated. By setting the minimum motor speed high enough, motor overheating can be prevented if the motor has to run at low speed for long times. Consult the motor manufacturer to find out what speed range is optimal for your motor.

How Does the ITRS9 Controller Ensure Motor Protection?
A common problem with AC motors is overheating. In order to timely detect motor overheating, some motors are equipped with TK or thermal contacts. These thermal contacts measure the motor windings temperature. ITR9S fan speed controllers can monitor thermal motor contacts. In case the motor overheats, the TK monitoring function will disable the motor to prevent permanent motor damage. If the TK monitoring function does this, the alarm output will be activated. If the motor is not equipped with TK contacts, bridge both TK terminals of the ITRS9 controller to simulate normal motor temperature. An external buzzer or an external indicator light can be connected to the alarm output to signal motor problems.

What Remote Control and Start-Up Options Are Available?
The two inputs are usable to remotely start or stop the motor. It is for example possible to connect a remote switch or an external clock to one of both inputs to start the motor. There are two different modes to start the motor: Kick start or soft start acceleration. The choice between the two modes can be executed via an internal jumper. Kick start will start the motor at maximum speed. After 8 – 10 seconds, the motor will then decelerate towards the requested fan speed. Soft start will smoothly accelerate the motor from standstill towards the requested fan speed. This acceleration time will be approximately 8 – 10 seconds.

How Does the ON/OFF Switch Function and Can It Be Disabled?
With the illuminated ON/OFF switch on the side, the device can be switched on or off. The switch is illuminated if it is in the ON position. Please refer to the manual for more details.

What Is the Purpose and Application of the Unregulated Output?
When the motor is enabled, the unregulated output is active. This output is called ‘unregulated output' because it is either ON (230 Volt) or OFF (0 Volt). The maximum current of this output is 2 A. It is typically used to control an external run-indicator, a damper, an external relay, etc.
E.g. if a damper is connected to the fan, when the fan stops, the damper is closed. When the fan is active, the damper is open.

What Are the Installation Guidelines and Enclosure Features?
This fan speed controller can be installed on a wall or on a panel in an indoor environment. Make sure that the fan speed controller can cool enough. To this end, preferably install it in a cool place, away from the sun. The enclosure is made of plastic of the high-quality r-ABS VO (UL94) type. This material is flame extinguishing, very tough and offers good protection against impacts. It offers an IP54 protection against ingress dust and water.
