Product description

Transformer controller with 0-10V analog input. It controls single-phase motors. The combined maximum motor current is 1.5 A. The supply voltage is 230 V AC.

Speed is controlled in five levels by reducing the motor voltage using autotransformer technology. These five levels are selectable using an analog control signal (0-10 V) or an external potentiometer.

The fully sinusoidal output voltage ensures quiet motor operation. The TK control function stops the motor in case of overheating.

The plastic IP54 housing allows surface mounting.

Additional specifications and description

What is a transformer controller?

A transformer controller regulates fan speed in steps by reducing the motor voltage. This is done via autotransformers. This technology is very reliable and robust. It generates a motor voltage with a perfect sinusoidal shape. This technology guarantees a quiet motor operation and an extended service life. A special impregnated coating reduces the electrical noise of the autotransformers.

0-10 V control signal
One of the available fan speed levels can be selected via the 0-10 V input signal. For instance, Sentera’s sensors generate such control signal. If there is no 0-10 V signal available, an external potentiometer can be connected to the STVS1 controller. The MTP-X10K-NA potentiometer can be connected to the 12 VDC supply of the STVS1 controller.
In this case, input signal of 2 V activates speed level 1 (110 VAC to the motor), input signal 4 V activates speed level 2 (140 VAC to the motor) and so on.

Thermal motor protection
This fan speed controller can monitor thermal motor contacts (TK or thermal contacts measure temperature in the motor windings). In case of motor overheating, the TK monitoring function will disable the motor to prevent motor damage. If the motor is not equipped with TK contacts, both TK terminals of the controller must be bridged to simulate normal motor temperature.

Extra digital output
The speed controller STVS1 is equipped with an additional digital output that uses 12 VDC for operation. This output signals the operation of thermal contacts that protect the motor from overheating. It can be used to connect a lamp, which, depending on the connected terminals, will light up or go out. A more advanced solution would be to connect to the digital output of an automated building management system (BMS). Such a solution can notify of the electric motor overheating and a fan stop by sound and/or light alarms. This option of using a digital output is relevant for premises where work with hazardous air mixtures and gases is carried out.

Auto reset after power failure
In case of a power failure, this controller will automatically reset itself. When the power is restored, the motor will restart automatically.

Unregulated output
The extra, unregulated output (230 VAC) is active when the motor is enabled. It can be used to control an external run indicator, a damper, etc.
This means that when the fan is deactivated, the dampers is closed or the indicator is off. When the fan is active, the damper is open and the indicator light is on.

More than five output voltages available
Although the series features output voltage steps 110, 140, 170, 190 and 230 VAC, you easily change the 5 output voltages by changing the internal wiring thanks to the fact that the STVS1 features 80 VAC output voltage, but it is not connected. If you need this, you can easily replace one of the already connected taps, which can be connected by disconnecting one of the factory connected taps and connecting to this tap.

Solid enclosure
The enclosure is made of high-quality r-ABS plastic. This material is exceptionally heat resistant, very tough and offers good protection against impacts. What is more, in order to guarantee the quality of its enclosures and to protect the electronics of its devices, Sentera produces its plastic enclosures in its own factory.  The enclosure can be surface mounted and offers an IP54 protection against ingress of dirt, dust and moisture.
