Product description

Three-phase fan speed controller for AC fans with 400 V motors, with five adjustable AC fan speeds from low to high. The (combined) maximum motor current is 2,5 A.

The fan speed can be selected via a rotary switch in the OFF position. The motor speed can be adjusted in 5 steps by changing the motor voltage.

The output voltage has a perfect sinusoidal shape and ensures quiet operation of the motor.

The enclosure complies with IP54 and prevents the ingress of dust, dirt and moisture. The unit can be wall mounted indoors.

The supply voltage is 400 V AC.

Additional specifications and description

General information
This 5-step fan speed controller described is designed for three-phase 400 Volt motors and is commonly used in industrial facilities such as warehouses, factories, or industrial kitchens. It provides power for three-phase motor loads and is primarily used to regulate extractor hoods or exhaust fans.
In a 3x400 V three-phase system, the voltage difference between each phase wire and the neutral is always 230 V, while the voltage difference between two phase wires is 400 V. Be careful not to confuse the neutral wire (N) with the earth connection which is yellow and green and allows electrical current leaking from a faulty appliance or cable to be grounded to earth. It protects you from electric shock.

The utilized technology is autotransformer based. Auto transformer controllers regulate the voltage output whilst maintaining a true sine wave. The big advantage of this type of control is the low motor noise and almost no EMC emission problems. Autotransformers provide reliable and robust operation, resulting in quiet motor operation and extended service life. The autotransformers are coated to further reduce electrical noise.
The STR-4 transformer voltage controllers used to provide five speed step control of three phase motors where the peak current of the motor does not exceed the rating of the controller, i.e. 2,5 A. Speed control is done manually via the built in selector switch.
In a 3x400 V three-phase system, the voltage difference between each phase wire and the neutral is always 230 V, while the voltage difference between two phase wires is 400 V.

Voltage requirement
The fan speed controller requires a supply voltage of 3x 400 Volt + N. It is important to ensure that your motor is voltage controllable before using this controller. If you are unsure, it is recommended to contact the motor manufacturer for clarification.

Speed selection
The controller features a built-in selector switch that allows you to select one of the 5 output speeds. The available output voltages for this product version are: 130, 180, 230, 300 and 400 VAC. It is essential to operate the switch at a moderate speed to prevent internal sparking during shifting. Operating the switch too quickly may result in the device remaining in the OFF position.

Unregulated output
The controller has an additional unregulated output (1 phase, 230 VAC) that becomes active when the motor is enabled. This output can be used to control external devices such as run indicators, dampers, relays, etc. The maximum current for this output is 2 A. The external device is connected to L1 and N, which is Sentera’s standard.

Metal housing
The fan speed controller is housed in a high-quality steel enclosure. The metal enclosure allows for efficient heat dissipation, ensuring the controller can cool sufficiently. It is recommended to install the controller in a cool place, away from direct sunlight. The enclosure provides IP54 protection against dust and water ingress, making it suitable for indoor installation on walls or panels.

It is important to follow the manufacturer's instructions and safety guidelines when installing and operating the fan speed controller. If you have any doubts or questions, it is advisable to consult with a qualified electrician or contact the manufacturer for further assistance.
