Product description

Transformer fan speed controller for single-phase motor. The maximum (combined) current is 20 amperes.

The rotation speed of the AC fan is adjustable from low to high in 5 steps and can be selected by a rotary switch. This rotary switch has also an off position. The motor speed is regulated in 5 steps by changing the motor voltage. The output voltage with perfect sinusoidal shape ensures silent operation of the motor.

The housing provides IP54 protection against dirt, dust and moisture. It can be mounted on the wall indoors.

This 5-speed fan speed controller is often used to control the kitchen hood exhaust fan, ceiling fan, exhaust fan, etc.

Additional specifications and description

Transformer-based fan speed controller
Transformers are primarily used to change voltage levels in electrical systems, stepping up or stepping down the voltage as required. Transformer-based control units have their advantages in specific applications, such as noise reduction and simplicity of control. Another major advantage of transformer-based control units is speed control without electromagnetic excitation in the motors. What you get by a transformer fan speed controller is: silent motor operation, simple control in steps and a controller with a long service life at a reasonable priceController in a steel box and a ventilation ductwork

Use
5-step fan speed controllers are widely used in industrial kitchens, warehouses or industrial environments. They are often used as a simple control for regulating extractor hoods or exhaust fans. The fan speed can be increased from standstill to maximum speed in 5 steps. When connected, this controller can be used immediately. No configuration or programming is required. AC fan speed control is extra easy!

The control principle
This is a fan speed controller for single-phase motors. Via the built-in rotary switch, you can select one of the 5 speeds. Autotransformer technology is used to reduce the motor voltage and the fan speed in 5 steps. This speed controller is therefore only suitable for voltage controllable motors. If you are not sure whether your motor is voltage controllable, it is best to contact the motor manufacturer. Autotransformer technology is very reliable and robust. It generates a motor voltage with perfect sinusoidal shape. This results in exceptionally quiet motor operation and extended service life. A special impregnated coating reduces the electrical noise from the autotransformers.

Unregulated output
The unregulated output of the motor controller is a separate output that becomes active when the motor is enabled. It operates in a binary manner, meaning it is either ON (230 Volts) or OFF (0 Volts). This unregulated output typically has a maximum current rating of 2 A.
This unregulated output can be utilized for various purposes, such as:
- Run Indicator: The output can be connected to an external run indicator, such as a light, to visually indicate when the motor is active.
- Damper Control: The output can be used to control a damper. For example, when the motor is running, the damper blade opens to allow airflow, and when the motor stops, the damper closes to restrict airflow.
- External Relay: The output can be connected to an external relay, allowing the motor controller to switch or control other electrical devices or circuits.

Rotary switch with built-in mechanical time delay
It is important to operate the rotary switch not too quickly. The switch has a built-in mechanical time delay. This is important to prevent internal sparking during shifting. It has a positive effect on the service life of the device. When the rotary switch is rotated from position faster than the built-in mechanical time delay, the device will remain internally at position 0 (OFF position).

Surface mount enclosure
Enclosures play an important role in protecting the interior components or contents from various external factors such as debris, dust, water, and mechanical impact. The quality of enclosures is indeed essential to ensure the integrity and safety of the enclosed items.
The STR-1 feature sheet steel enclosures designed to be resistant to external mechanical impacts. They can withstand accidental bumps, collisions, or other physical forces without compromising their structure or the items inside. This feature is particularly important in environments where there is a higher risk of such impacts, ensuring the protection of the enclosed components.
The enclosures have a paint finish, which serves as an extra layer of protection against corrosion and other environmental factors. The paint finish helps to enhance the durability and longevity of the enclosure. The EN 62208 certification ensures that the enclosures comply with the standards set for empty enclosures for low-voltage switchgear and control gear assemblies. The ingress protection rating of IP54 guarantees that the enclosures are designed to provide a high level of protection against dust and water ingress, they are effectively sealed against dust particles and can withstand water splashes from any direction, making them suitable for moderately harsh environments.
