Product description

Three-phase fan speed controller designed for AC fans with 400 V motor. The maximum motor current (combined) is 8 A.

There are five steps to control the AC fan speed, ranging from low to high. The fan speed can be adjusted using the rotary switch, which has an OFF position.

By altering the motor voltage, the motor speed can be controlled in 5 steps. Silent motor operation is ensured by the output voltage's flawless sinusoidal shape.

The enclosure provides IP54 protection against dust, dirt, and moisture intrusion. In indoor spaces, it can be wall mounted.

The supply voltage is 400 VAC.

Additional specifications and description

About the series
This series for step-based transformer fan speed control is designed to regulate manually the speeds of AC fans by reducing the motor voltage. It is suitable for voltage controllable motors and can be used in ventilation system s for industrial, commercial or public building where three-phase / 400 V power supply is present.
One of the main advantages of this type of control unit is that it provides speed control without electromagnetic excitation in the motors, making it ideal for noise-sensitive premises. What is more, the autotransformers integrated in the STR-4 series have a special impregnation that further reduces noise levels.
The controller allows for the connection of several motors as long as the total current does not exceed the rated load of the transformer unit. This feature is beneficial when you need to control the speeds of multiple fans simultaneously. However, it is important to ensure that the current limit of 8 Amps is not exceeded to avoid overloading the controller.
To control the fan speed, the controller is equipped with a rotary switch with a built-in mechanical time delay. It is important to operate the switch at an appropriate speed to prevent internal sparking. If the switch is rotated too quickly, the device will remain internally at the "OFF" position (position 0).

Step-based control method
The controller allows for simple control in 5 steps. The rotary switch on the controller typically has multiple positions or steps that correspond to different fan speeds. By turning the switch to a specific position, you can set the desired speed for the fan. This step-based control mechanism provides convenient and straightforward adjustment options.
A step-based transformer fan speed control is designed to have a long service life. The built-in mechanical time delay in the rotary switch plays a crucial role in prolonging the device's lifespan. By preventing internal sparking during shifting, it helps reduce wear and tear on the internal components, ensuring reliable operation over an extended period.

Extra unregulated single phase output
The STR-4 series of transformer fan speed control also provides an extra unregulated output (230 VAC, monophase). This output becomes active when the motor is enabled. It can be used for various purposes, such as controlling external operation indicators, opening or closing dampers, switching external relays and more. The maximum current for this output is 2 A as standard.

Enclosure made of sheet steel
The controller is housed in a surface mount enclosure made of sheet steel. This type of enclosure offers robust protection for the internal components against external mechanical impacts. It can withstand accidental bumps, collisions, or other physical forces without compromising the structure or functionality of the controller. The paint finish not only enhances its aesthetic appeal but also provides an additional layer of protection against corrosion and environmental factors, improving its durability and longevity. The enclosure is certified to comply with the standards set for empty enclosures for low-voltage switchgear and control gear assemblies (EN 62208). It also has an ingress protection rating of IP54, which guarantees a high level of protection against dust and water ingress, making it suitable for moderately harsh environments.
