Product description

A 5-step fan speed controller with an integrated relay for controlling an external gas valve. 5 A is the maximum motor current. The supply voltage is 230 VAC.

The fan speed may be adjusted using the built-in rotary switch. To monitor air flow, an optional pressure relay is required. If no air flow is detected within 60 seconds of starting the motor, the relay output is shut to cease the gas flow.

Local safety rules sometimes require that gas be delivered only after the kitchen hood exhaust fan above the stove has been turned on. As a result, the SFPR1 series is an excellent fan speed controller for industrial kitchen hoods!

The TK monitoring function deactivates the motor in case of overheating. The motor can be started via the built-in rotary switch or remotely via an external switch. After a power failure, the motor will automatically restart.
The enclosure allows surface mounting in indoor environments (IP54).

Additional specifications and description

This device is designed to control the speed of an electric motor, particularly for applications like industrial kitchens where precise control, safety features, and remote operation are important.

How does it work?
The fan speed can be set manually via the rotary switch. The relay output is designed to control an external gas supply valve. The gas supply will be enabled only when the exhaust fan is active. If no air flow is detected within 60 seconds, the gas supply valve will be closed. An optional pressure relay must be connected to the input FL.

Autotransformer technology

The SFPR1 uses an autotransformer to control the voltage applied to an electric motor, allowing fan speed control in distinct steps. Autotransformers are reliable and durable devices that can step control voltage levels.
The autotransformer has a special impregnated coating to reduce the generation of electrical noise, which helps maintain a quieter operation. The controller generates a pure sinusoidal wave output voltage, ensuring quiet operation of the electric motor and extending its service life.

Gas valve control
The SFPR1 controllers can connect to a gas valve, which only opens when the fan is functioning correctly. The gas valve remains de-energized for one minute after the regulator is switched on. If the fan does not operate during this time, gas supply does not start, making it suitable for industrial kitchens

Remote control start and stop

The controller has a normally closed contact that can be used for remote start/stop control and operation monitoring. It can be connected to various equipment such as thermostats and relays.

Auto power on after power failure

In the event of a power failure, the speed controller and motor will automatically restart once power is restored.

Motor overheating protection

The controller has terminals for connecting thermal motor contacts (TK) to measure motor winding temperature. If the motor overheats, it will be stopped to prevent damage. After protection trips, the controller needs manual restart. If the motor lacks thermal contacts, TK terminals can be connected together to simulate normal operation.

Unregulated output
An additional unregulated output (230 V) is present, mainly for controlling devices like air valve motors or run indicators. This output is active when the motor runs and can be used to control a light for remote control indication. When the controller motor is running, this output is 230 VAC, when the motor is switched off the unregulated output is 0 VAC.

LED status indication
The controller has LED indicators for visual status indication. A green indicator turns on when power is connected. A red indicator signals motor overheating, lack of air flow/pressure difference, or decreased airflow/pressure during operation.

Housing
The primary objective of the housing is to provide a shield for the internal components of the controller, safeguarding them against the intrusion of external contaminants, moisture, and unfavorable environmental elements. To ensure high quality and longevity, the enclosures of our products are manufactured in-house from reinforced Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (r-ABS), which has flame-retardant rating and are resistant to impacts. The enclosure is surface mountable and engineered to achieve a protection class of IP54. This classification underscores its capacity to effectively withstand both dust infiltration and water ingress.
