Product description

This is a variable speed controller with run indicator for single-phase motors. The maximum motor current is 1,5 A. It regulates AC fan speed from high to low. The fan speed can be set via the potentiometer. This potentiometer has an OFF-position (counter clockwise). The minimum speed can be adjusted via an internal trimmer. The enclosure allows inset mounting (IP44) or surface mounting (IP54). The orange operating LED indicator is integrated in the enclosure. The supply voltage is 230 VAC. Fan speed is regulated by reducing the motor voltage via phase angle control - TRIAC technology.

Additional specifications and description

Why choose LTX

Residential environments usually require a simple control solution that is also cost effective. Moreover, at home the looks always matter! The design of the LTX series is plain and fits any interior style. Controlling the fan speed using this controller is as easy as turning on and off the lights at home. Via its only button – a rotary knob - the fan speed is set from maximum to minimum by simply turning it clockwise. The device a solid and reliable control solution which reduces the noise levels emitted by the fan and increases the service life of the motor connected to it thanks to the TRIAC technique used.
Reduced fan speed uses significantly less power than maximum operation and can often be employed, typically during unoccupied or low occupancy. What you get is simplified manual control, reliability and efficiency

What is TRIAC
TRIAC - contraction of triode for alternating current - is a three terminal electronic component that conducts current in either direction when triggered. In general, the TRIAC device is a semiconductor that can be used for AC systems as a switch. The technique used is called phase-angle control and employs the ability of the power semiconductor to switch on current when its gate is energised and to automatically switch off again when the current flowing through it falls to zero.

OFF position

The LTX features an OFF position - turning the knob anticlockwise stops the motor. If necessary, the OFF position can be deactivated. In this case, the motor can keep on working when the power supply is available, i.e. when the device is connected to the mains even though the device has not been manually active by turning the knob. As standard, the supply voltage to the LTX is connected via terminals ↑ and N. If you would like to disable the OFF position, you need to connect the supply voltage via the terminals intended for the unregulated output, namely ↓ and N.

Unregulated output
The LTX features an unregulated output which is active when the motor is enabled. If the supply voltage is connected to ↑ and N, the unregulated output is active while the motor is in operation. The unregulated output is used to control external devices such as dampers, relays, run indicators, etc. that can work without the need to regulate the incoming voltage. So the controller regulates the fan through the so called “regulated output” via controlling the voltage with the option to regulate one more device. But this time the voltage is “unregulated”, i.e. either 0 V or 230 V.
If you connect the supply voltage to the LTX as standard and as advised by the relevant documentation, the unregulated output of your controller will be active when the motor is enabled. This means that when the fan stops, the connected external device will be disabled – the damper will be closed or the run indicator will switch off. While the fan is working, the damper will remain open and the indication light will be switched on. The maximum current is 2 A.

Minimum speed trimmer
The LTX features an internal trimmer for adjusting the minimum fan speed. The motor might produce a little more noise at lower speeds. The minimum motor voltage can be adjusted in order to avoid motor stalling at low via the minimum speed trimmer. It can be set within the range 20% - 70% of the supply voltage.

Application
The series is intended for AC fans and control is realised via reducing the motor voltage. AC fans run on an alternating current and convert alternating current into mechanical power. This means that the series is suitable only for voltage controllable motors. You can connect several motors to the controller as long as the current limit is not exceeded. If you are not sure about your motor type, we strongly advise you to read carefully its accompanying documentation or contact the motor manufacturer.

Flush or surface mounting
The enclosure of the LTX is made of high-quality ASA plastic in cream colour (RAL9010). The material is UV resistant and provides protection against dust, water and impacts. Basically, you can install the LTX in any kind of wall. If you choose the flush mounting option, it fits perfectly the standard European box. The protection class is IP44 for flush and IP54 for surface mounting. Furthermore, it looks really nice and By and fits any interior. Cleaning it is very easy using only a damp cloth.
